Illustrations by Rebecca Nakaba, based on Edward Topsell’s A Book of Beasts. These beasts are featured in both volumes of the Animals in Space zines, and continue to appear in ongoing iterations of the project.

The First Animals in Space was a collaborative zine curated by Rebecca Nakaba, which included the artists+writers Malika Bukhari, Nathanael Jones, Emily Martin, Caroline McCraw, and Natasha Mijares. The zine was printed via a grant from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and distributed at the 2017 AWP conference.
